magnetic fields
stephin merritt : genius

Jason King and his obsessive/compulsive disorder get the credit for introducing me to magnetic fields.  he painstakingly downloaded all of 69 love songs for me before i'd even heard the band just because he is as concerned with letting people know about amazing music as alien ant farm is with getting to #1 on TRL.

magnetic fields is one of those rare bands that have an album where every song sounds like it was done by a different band, but every band happens to be kick ass. stephin merritt has a great sense of humor and the entire team that makes up m.f. is gifted to unreal degrees.

please, the above paragraph would make me puke if i read it in a magazine. merritt combines somber lyrics with upbeat, radically diverse music. you'll be tapping your foot and feeling fine while absentmindedly singing along to a tale about beating the shit out of someone for making you feel so damned low.
