named after Marlon Brando's motorcycle gang in the 1950 movie "The Wild One," this three piece powerhouse of a band originates from San Francisco.
as with every musical movement, once one "type" of band breaks, there are inevitably going to be 300 other bands with the same look crawling out of the woodwork. usually, these bands have been making music for years, barely getting by. or they are made in a factory somewhere in canada. either way, this band would have been a lot bigger than they are now if not for that they look a lot like everyone's favorite pseudo-mod, punk poster boys, The Strokes. Here's the problem, they aint The Strokes, they dont even sound like The Strokes, hell - Phantom Planet sounds more like The Strokes than they do. but Phantom Planet has a leg up, they've got a gimmick - they've got Jason Schwartzman.
i'd say the top two contenders for the hearts of teen girls all around this beautiful globe are The Hives, their gimmick being that they are from Sweden or somewhere, and The Strokes. Young, hip men. so Black Rebel Motorcycle Club hasnt got much of a chance. UNLESS YOU GIVE THEM ONE!! they bring back fond memories of the Jesus Mary Chain, Velvet Underground, the Stone Roses, etc.
and they like to wear leather jackets or pea coats in just about every photo shoot.
