The Reindeer Section is the brain child of Snow Patrol front man Gary Lightbody.  After indulging in the amount of alcohol that usually gives way to either brilliant (if not impossible) ideas or long bouts of hunching over not-so-pristine toilet seats, Lightbody - lucky enough to actualize  the former -  proclaimed to his fellow music mates his ideas to form a "supergroup" comprised of  members from his favorite bands including:
mogwai
teenage fanclub
arab strap
belle and sebastian
etc
Fortunately for the world, Lightbody was man enough to stick to his word and the very next day penned 14 songs, then went  about organizing a group some 27 members strong.  If only we could all be so productive after a night of hard drinking.
The crew put out their first much acclaimed album "Ya'll Get Scared Now, Ya Hear!" in October of 2001. With 15 delightfully somber tracks, you get a smooth blend of each contributors talents - including simple but effective lyrics  ("with your conscience clear you can walk away, take it easy dear on my swollen skull" - The Opening Taste), and a symphony-worthy string section. Definitely good for rainy weather.
Amazingly, the group put out another album just one year later entitled "Son Of Evil Reindeer." Here they get a bit more rockin with tracks like "Grand Parade" which starts with a single voice and swells to a crescendo complete with strings and a full scale choir.  "You Are My Joy" follows suit with a catchy, uplifting chorus and while "Your Sweet Voice" may be about the difficulties of just being friends when you wanted more, the vocals are so beautifully done you may end up with a smile on your face after all.

Head on over to their web site and you can take a listen to all of the tracks on both of the albums

of course, i must insist that you check out Snow Patrol for some equally brilliant business
